Axe Body Wash

The company Axe which makes men’s hygeine products markets the product brilliantly. All of their  commercials show an average looking man with a swarm of women around him after using an Axe product. These commercials use sex appeal to get customers. I know that when I use their bodywash I wont have a woman strip my clothes off in a supermarket like the commercials show, but I still buy the bodywash anyways. It smells really great and is a good product. The fact of the matter is, if they did not have commercials using the female gaze and sexy women throwing themselves on men, I most likely would have never tried it. The same goes for the clothing company Abercrombie. There marketing practices are terrific. They hire beautiful models to be the company face. They have a great smelling store with loud thumping music that pumps you up and makes you want to shop. They have half naked employees standing outside the store to bring customers in. The products are mediocre but their advertising is amazing, so the company is a success.

When horrific things happen in this world, sometimes we turn towards the music industry to put the blame. The Colombine Shooting was a terrible tragedy in American history, and one person on the wrong side of that was Marilyn Manson. He took alot of grief because supposedly the shooters were big fans of his. Although his music can be dark and not promote a super positive message, can we truly blame music for their actions. I think it takes a little more than a song about death to provoke someone to shoot fellow students. I dont think a song can load a gun, cock it, and then pull the trigger. That simply takes a person who is not mentally stable. I have heard from friends of mine who joined the army that right before they go into battle, everyone has bands such as Metallica blasting through the speakers in order to get them pumped up for action. I understand this because music can change my adrenaline or emotions, but it would ever drive me to go out and perform some heinous crime.
